Aaron Hernandez, 25, has been found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury in Fall River, Massachusetts on April 15. The former NFL star was charged in the death of 27-year-old semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.
Aaron received an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of first-degree murder of Odin. The victim was dating the sister of Aaron’s fiancee at the time, when he was found shot to death in an abandoned industrial yard.
Prosecutors say Odin was seen earlier that night around 2:30 a.m. with Aaron and his friends, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, in a rented silver Nissan Altima. Later that day, a jogger found his body riddled with gunshots, according to CNN.
Both Carlso and Ernest, who were also charged with murder, have pleaded not guilty, and will be tried separately.
The final outcome comes after almost a three-month trial, where more than 130 witnesses took the stand. Testimony from multiple witnesses included Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft and Aaron’s fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins.
The jury also heard testimony from Alexander Bradley, a man who sued Aaron over allegedly being shot in the face in February 2013 in Florida, according to the outlet. That shooting took place five months before the murder of Odin.
After the verdict was read, Aaron’s mother and his fiancée cried uncontrollably and gasped, according to SI.
